Blog #4 Amanda Miller

I came up with my ideas for snapshots by analyzing my entire senior year. Senior year was a lot of ups and downs with a lot of complications so I decided to pick times throughout the year from the start of senior year until I arrived at Florida State. I picked important moments during my senior year that stood out to me. I picked times that were either really happy, really stressful, or really upsetting. Moments through out the year that struck me emotionally were ones I picked. I knew these would be good for my paper because when I even thought about them, they sparked emotions from me. I think the best moments to pick were ones that make you feel something inside. I had a bunch of different moments picked out, but I decided not to use some of them. Some of them I felt like I couldn’t use enough detail or sensory descriptions to make it good, so I left it out. Some of the ones I used were big moments that all led up to me getting into Florida State, picking Florida State as my school and eventually arriving here. Another example of moments that I picked were ones that stressed me out and I felt like I could write a lot about. For example, picking my senior quote and re-taking the SAT were two moments that were small in the big picture of my life, but stressful at the time. I also picked moments that were sad for me that I could write with a lot of emotion.

  1. Analyzing a particular time period seems like a great way to come up with snapshots. I wish I did something more so like this rather than just writing random, made-up stories. I agree that you using your emotional spark makes writing a piece easier because it opens so many more opportunities for invigorating details. It gives you so much to work with because you can relate to each moment better than if you were just making them up. This is an excellent way to write and configure your ideas.
