Blog #4 Jenna Volpe

When I was thinking of what to write my snapshots about, I literally just sat here and thought of stories that I could easily elaborate. I thought of moments in my life that made a big impact. Some things will stick in your mind forever and the moments that I chose to write about are moments like those. I can provide a lot of emotion and detail to the snapshots that I chose. The first couple snapshots that I wrote about were focused on the sickness and death of my grandma who meant the world to me. I easily could portray every emotion that I felt at that time in my life so I knew it would make more of an image of who I am. Also, I choose to write about some of my travel experiences which have made a huge impact on my life.
There are some moments that I wrote about in my first draft that I quickly realized weren’t right for the prompt. I was simply telling general stories that I couldn’t seem to get in depth on. Also, I had a problem with explaining moments in my life that I didn’t actually experience first hand. One of the snapshots that I wrote about in my first draft was one of how my parents met for the first time at Florida State. I rallied that back to why I am here today, but that isn’t what the idea of this essay was supposed to be. When I noticed what snapshots truly meant, it was easy for me to think of times that I could easily explain in depth through words.

  1. That is an excellent way of coming up with snapshot ideas. Remembering memories that you went through in the past gives you an enormous about of vocabulary to describe that moment. You should also consider conveying who you are as a person through your snapshot. Think of memories that describe you as a person.

  2. I did the same thing as you did. When it came to picking my snap stories I thought of stories in my life that I could vividly remember and write tons of detail about. It seems like the stories you chose for your snap stories were easy to write about because they seem to have a lot of emotion attached to them. I found my self to be telling general stories at first than I went back and added detail by describing the sensory objectives that I felt.

  3. I find it pretty interesting that you determined what snap shots to use by thinking about what stories could be easily translated onto paper rather then ones that would be difficult to write about. I went about my process much differently thinking about which stories could be the most interesting and powerful to read rather then what stories in my life could translate easily onto a page.
