A month later Ivy was back at school and James still working at the hotel on the beach. The two hadn't heard from each other since the night before Ivy had left Florida. They had planned to stay in touch but Ivy lost her phone on her plane and in turn, Jame's phone number. She hadn't expected to hear from him otherwise. They both had their own lives and their own problems. Every once in awhile she would daydream about the blonde haired boy with the deep eyes. She would smile and wonder how he's doing, thinking back on that weekend. James thought about her too: he met plenty of pretty girls vacationing from out of state but none of them compared to the girl he'd met in the garden. He was sure she was off happy with some boy in college and he liked that idea. He wanted her happy if nothing else. The two were thousands of miles away and leading very different lives- that was okay with them. The memories of that one weekend and the time they had spent together was enough.

Two years later Ivy was graduating from college. James mother had passed and he was taking some classes at the community college before hoping to transfer to the University of Central Florida. For a few months following Ivy's departure the two talked night and day: Skypeing, texting calling. But when school become more demanding Ivy didn't have the free time to talk to James all day long anymore and their everyday conversations became a few times a week to maybe once a month to maybe an Instagram like every now and then. They had talked about meeting up once Ivy had graduated, she had planned to come work down in Florida. James still held on to this idea, hoping when she was down here she would think about him and maybe call and they could get coffee or something. What James didn't know was that Ivy was engaged. She had met a man her last year of Undergrad named Dalton- he had graduated the year before her and was attending Graduate school in California. He was a tall, about 6'5, dark features, light green eyes, with long lashes, broad shoulders and a muscular build. The two hit it off immediately and 8 months into the relationship he proposed. Ivy would stay with him in California at least until he graduated. She had nearly completely forgotten about the boy she met on a beach in Florida. Every now and then she'd come across an old email or a Facebook post and she'd wonder how he was doing. She hoped he was happy, that's all she ever wanted for him.
