Evan Schroder- Blog #1 ENC 1101

When I begin to write the first thing to come to my mind is how long the paper has to be. This stems from my main problem of starting my projects at the last minute. You are always told to start your assignment right away and get it done so you don't have to worry about it the last night, it is a lot less stressful that way, but for some reason there always seems to be something better to do. Whether its procrastinating on the computer or going out with friends I always find a way to save my work for the last minute. So wondering how long the paper is going to be is a main concern for me, because i'm rushing to get it done normally. The other issue, or thing that makes me most anxious, is grammar. Sometimes I just flat out don't know how to form certain sentences, but most of the time it's because I just try to get all of my ideas down on paper as quickly as possible before I forget them. Which leads me to speeding through the essay without stopping even for a second to add a coma, and often leads to run on sentences or fragments. Another problem that is not as much of a concern is transitioning my ideas in an essay. I have heard from teachers in the past that the flow of my essay's could be improved. Just having one transition sentence at the end of a paragraph can be the difference between a good or great paper. I typically do pretty well in English although I don't love to write, I've never really had a problem with creativity or adding enough details. Most of my anxiousness is created by last minute work which I will have to change in not only this class but college in general.

  1. Evan, I as well used to have procrastination problems but then one day I had a revelation. If I could try and give you some advice on your procrastination issues it would be that friends and the computer will always be there but the chance to succeed in school and enhance your education will not be. School work is always more important then going out with friends because your friends are not going to make you succeed in life and get a great education. Only you can do that. Also, your work will never be at its best if its always being done at the last minute. If you get your work done as soon as its assigned though then you'll have time to keep improving it and to do anything you want while not having to worry about your pending school work thats upcoming.

  2. I too have had a bad procrastinating problem my whole life, especially when it comes to writing papers. I would spend more time thinking of ways to mange my time where I end up leaving myself barely anytime to write a good paper. What I do is think of all the times I have waited to the last minute to write a paper, which is practically every paper I right, and think I did it then and got a good grade, so why can't I do it again. Besides you got this far through school, so your doing something right.

  3. I also have had a pretty bad procrastinating problem my whole life. But trust me, your life and writing will get a whole lot easier if you learn to break that habit! When you write your papers earlier, you have a lot of time to revise and read over your work. Reading it over a bunch of times will help your writing get even better when you realize what makes sense or not.
